Dear All,
I would like to seek 2nd opinion on my daughter case
(3 yrs old).
I would like to explain in detail below.

After having high fever (reached 40 deg C) for 5 days,
my daughter was checked in for hospitalization on
October 23rd, 2007.
The conclusion after blood test and thorax radiology
is bronchopneumonia. Although the blood culture is not
given any specific result (failed to growth).
The most concern is my daughter (Falisha) CRP which is
535 (very very high).
After 5 days of antibiotic (ecotrixon) treatment, the
fever is down and the CRP become 57.

Falisha is sent home. By the time she recovered her
strength, I realize that she could no longer
understand my instructions and cannot engaged in
conversation as before. She was very talkative and
chattering and singing all the time while now she just
like to stare into thin air without a word. The
unresponsiveness might be happening during her
hospitalization but I didn’t realize it since she was
very sleepy and weak.

We checked her to ENT specialist and was reported had
very good intact ear drum. So ENT specialist recommend
us to go to neuro pediatrician, the neuro pediatrician
confirm that Falisha suffer a heavy sudden hearing
loss. We took BERA test the next day and resulted flat
wave until 96 dB from area I to V. So Falisha is
claimed having severe deafness in both of her ears. We
also do MRI test and give very good result which
indicate no damage in the brain. The diagnose is then
directed to virus infection or autoimmune syndrome
that might cause the deafness.

The neuro pediatrician suggest a high dose steroid
treatment and after given thimelon from 62.5 mg x 3 in
the first day, 62.5 mg x 2 in second day and 31.25 mg
x 2 in third day, Falisha is release with
recommendation of having OAE test.

The result of OAE test confirmed that the damage is
located in the cochlea and the tympanometri also
suggest the same thing. We were informed that this
condition is permanent and the only way out is
cochlear implant, which is very expensive.

We would like to seek your opinion whether Falisha
might have other alternatives for her cure. Right now
she is still be able to communicate limitedly and in
good health. Please advise immediately since we think
the deafness have been happening for 17 days now.

Your assistence is highly appreciated. Please help us.
We are willing to travel to Singapore if there is any
chance to handle this better. Thank you very much.
